Arts Association of Randolph County

Description Of Activities

The Arts Association of Randolph County (AARC) will be hosting workshops in all of the Randolph County Public Libraries in February and March 2024. Locations include: Winchester Community Library Union City Library Ridgeville Public Library Farmland Public Library Washington Township Library We estimate 20–30 families and/or individuals to participate in each workshop. During the workshop, we will have a reading of an original eclipse book, we will create our own viewboxes/camera obscuras, and having a discussion regarding creative ways to explain the eclipse. Every participant will receive a copy of the book and how-to flyers on how to create viewboxes. Participants will be encouraged to share these items and perhaps host their own viewing parties on the dan of the eclipse. AARC is commissioning author Lisa Combs to write a children’s book that focuses on the different historical stories that diverse cultures have shared regarding the how and why of an eclipse. This will encourage discussions on imagination, science, and how history has changed us even when our folklore remains. There will be digital copies of this book available to teachers and community organizations.

Camp Trinity

Description Of Activities

A total eclipse is bringing darkness lasting nearly 4 minutes over Camp Trinity on April 8, 2024. Observers can see the outmost layer of the sun’s atmosphere known as the corona. This confuses animals – causing nocturnal creatures to stir and bird and insects to fall silent. What an awesome learning event that happens once at the same location in about every 375 years. Camp Trinity would love to have you bring your family to join us during this learning opportunity. Contact us for camping and lodging information. We do have lodging for a large group as well. All reserved spots must be paid in advance, 2 night minimum, and are non refundable as space is limited. All camping spots for campers and tents will be primitive, with a select few having electric. The campground is located in Winchester, Indiana. For more
